Terrain and routing APIs for outdoor and sports apps

Build hiking, cycling and activity-tracking experiences with maps, route geometry and elevation profiles.

Why does location matter?

A line on a map rarely tells an outdoor user everything they need to know. People also want to understand route length, climbing sections and changes in terrain. GeoNexa enables applications to combine route geometry with elevation values and visualise the results in a meaningful way.

How does it work?

An elevation profile illustrates how height changes along a recorded track or planned journey. It can be used to highlight climbs and descents and estimate cumulative elevation gain. The values depend on terrain-data resolution, sampling interval and filtering choices.

Examples

Example implementation

For example, a cyclist imports a track. The application reads its geometry, requests elevation samples along the line and displays a profile beneath the map. Selecting a point on the chart highlights the corresponding location on the route.

What should you consider?

Elevation data does not establish current trail conditions, surface quality or safety. Avoid treating terrain estimates as a definitive difficulty rating. Explain sampling limitations and encourage users to consider local conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate API key for each feature?

GeoNexa is designed around shared access to location services. Confirm authentication details, service availability and limits in the current docs and account dashboard.

Can I use the results in my own website?

The APIs are designed for integration. Review the terms and documentation for allowed uses and data retention rules.
