Geocoding vs reverse geocoding: what is the difference?

The two processes connect locations and names in opposite directions. Understanding the distinction helps you select the correct API for an address form or a device-location feature.

How does it work?

Geocoding starts with text, such as a street and city, and returns candidate coordinates. Reverse geocoding starts with latitude and longitude and returns a readable place label or nearby address.

Where can you use this API?

A delivery application might geocode a customer address at checkout, then reverse-geocode a driver location when creating a trip report. Both features can coexist but serve different user interactions.

What should you consider?

Neither technique guarantees an officially valid postal address. A reverse match may describe the nearest mapped feature rather than the exact coordinate.
